Frequently Asked Questions
-
The short answer is: annually.
Modern heating and cooling systems are highly advanced and require regular maintenance and testing to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and reliability. Annual preventative maintenance helps reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns during peak seasons, such as the hottest days of summer or the coldest days of winter.
These are typically the busiest times for HVAC service companies, which can lead to longer response times and delays in repairs. Routine maintenance allows technicians to identify and address minor issues before they develop into larger, more costly problems.
In addition, many manufacturers require proof of regular maintenance to keep equipment warranties valid. Failure to properly maintain your system may result in denied warranty claims and reduced equipment lifespan.
Investing in annual maintenance helps protect your comfort, extend the life of your equipment, and save money on future repairs.

You've probably heard the saying, "They don't make them like they used to." We'd be dishonest if we said there wasn't some truth to that.
Older furnaces were often built with heavier steel and had fewer moving parts. However, modern furnaces offer significant advantages in efficiency, performance, and safety. Today's systems include numerous safety features that older furnaces simply didn't have.
There isn't a single "right" answer when it comes to furnace lifespan. Some furnaces are still operating after 20, 30, or even 40 years. That said, we generally consider 20 years to be a reasonable life expectancy for most furnaces.
Once a furnace reaches that age, it is often no longer covered by any parts warranty, and repair costs can begin to add up. If your furnace is more than 20 years old, one of the most important services you can schedule is a professional inspection. This allows a technician to verify that the heat exchanger is still safe and that the furnace can continue operating safely and reliably.

The frequency of filter replacement depends on several factors:
Is your HVAC system used year-round, or only during certain seasons?
What size filter do you have? A 1-inch filter typically requires more frequent replacement than a 5-inch filter.
Do you live on a dirt road?
Do you have pets?
These and other environmental factors can cause filters to become dirty more quickly.
As a general guideline:
1-inch filters: Check monthly. If the filter appears relatively clean, you may be able to extend the replacement interval. However, under normal operating conditions, a 1-inch filter should not be used for more than 6 months.
5-inch filters: Check after 6 months. If the filter still appears clean, you may be able to extend the replacement interval. However, a 5-inch filter should not be used for more than 12 months.
Keeping your filter clean is important for the health and efficiency of your HVAC system. Dirty filters restrict airflow and increase the system's external static pressure. Modern furnaces with variable-speed blower motors will often increase motor speed to compensate for this restriction, resulting in higher energy consumption and additional wear on the equipment. Over time, this can contribute to premature blower motor failure and unnecessary repair costs.

We're a full-service residential HVAC company. On the heating side, we install and service gas furnaces, oil furnaces, boilers, and geothermal systems. For cooling, we specialize in central air conditioning, ductless mini-splits, and multi-zone air handlers. We also handle water heaters — from traditional tank units to tankless on-demand systems — and we work on both new construction projects and existing home retrofits.
-
Both. We've partnered with local builders and homeowners throughout every phase of new home development — from initial load calculations and equipment selection all the way through final commissioning and system training. If you're building new or upgrading an existing system, we're set up to handle it.
-
While we do service most brands, our major brands for commercial and residential heating and cooling are Tempstar Boilers and water heaters, Lochinvar Ductless Mini-split heating and cooling, and Fujitsu. Please see our products page for more information.
